AZAPO WELCOMES THE UNRAVELLING OF THE DA, A PARTY OF WHITE LIBERAL APOLOGISTS FOR COLONIALISM AND APARTHEID
The Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO) notes with elation, the unravelling of the Democratic Alliance. A bastion of white apartheid and colonialist apologists, which has become anachronistic with the democratic vision that the majority of the Azanian people aspire for.
The mass resignations that we have seen in the top echelons of this white supremacist party this week, by mostly its black liberal leaders, is testament to the long-standing caveat issued by the Black Consciousness Movement at its inception more than 50 years ago. This to the effect that, liberalism in South Africa, is at core, white liberalism – a racist, oppressive, capitalist and exploitative conception of politics.
To the DA white supremacists, liberalism is only liberalism, when whites are in charge of the economy and our land, when they are in control of the political narratives and the direction of power. In this sense, liberalism in South Africa ala the DA, is a euphemism for racism, in both concept and practice.
All white parties, foundations and individuals, which profess themselves as liberals, in fact use liberalism as a cloak for their racist and white supremacist beliefs.
To this end Mmusi Maimane, Herman Mashaba, and all other victims of white liberalism within the DA and outside of it, are not heroes by any stretch of the imagination. They do not deserve the sympathy of the oppressed Black majority and the working class, who still suffer under the yoke of colonialism, apartheid and capitalist exploitation.
To be sure, Mmusi Maimane, Herman Mashaba and many Blacks who are going to leave the DA en masse, are in a classical African sense “Baipolai ba ba sa lelelengwe.” They were ab initio, suicidal in their mission of joining a white supremacist party.
They did not heed the diagnosis that was done by Steve Biko, Onkgopotse Tiro, Strini Moodley, Motlalepule Kgware, Muntu ka Myeza and many in the Black Consciousness Movement, about the treacherous nature of white liberals, and their tendency to throw Black people under the bus whenever it is expedient to do so.
This happened at Rhodes University in 1968 at a white dominated Nusas Conference. It was then and there where Black students walked out to found their own Black Student liberation movement, SASO. They were tired of being tutored by white students about how to conduct their struggle and how to respond to apartheid brutality and oppression.
Mmusi Maimane and Herman Mashaba and other Blacks in the DA, elected to ignore this history and its lessons. Now they are paying a heavy price, when they could have known better, that you must always touch white liberalism with a long pole.
This unravelling and ultimate demise of the DA is long overdue, and should be welcomed by all patriotic South Africans. It will sharpen the race and class contradictions in South African society for final resolution. The DA has been hobbling efforts at nation building, eliminating inequality and redistributing the land and wealth of our country.
The DA is a waste of political time and space as it stands diametrically opposed to the advancement of meaningful change and democracy. Its main purpose in the political sphere is to act as a brake on reversing the legacy of apartheid and colonialism and to serve as agents of imperialism in the country.
We call on the remaining Black souls in the DA to ditch this party of white supremacy, and to instead, make common cause with parties that come from the liberation struggle tradition and those that have always advanced a revolutionary and progressive vision of a truly united, anti-racist, democratic and socialist Azania, such as AZAPO.
