EASTER MESSAGE BY THE PRESIDENT OF AZAPO, CDE NELVIS QEKEMA, 28 MARCH 2024

Parents, Sisters and Brothers,

This weekend is different from all other weekends because it is the Easter Weekend.

As we know, Easter is the Christian period in which the Resurrection of Christ is commemorated. He is believed to have risen on the third day after his burial. Not to forget, is that Easter follows after Lent, which represents 40 days in which Christ fasted, prayed and repented.

For obvious reasons, AZAPO reminds the people and all Christians that Lent is the symbol of struggle and fighting. Black people should never to forget their own Lent on this anti-black world. It is out of that AZAPO hopes that Black Power will rise and free the Land and the People.

However, as we get into the Easter period, AZAPO calls on motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads and save lives. Let us continue to be responsible and Arrive Alive at our various destinations. The call is “Don’t Drink and Drive” . To the pedestrians AZAPO says, “Don’t Drink and Walk” on the roads.

Over the years, hundreds of lives are lost during holiday seasons, and most are as a results of our impatience and drinking on the roads.

AZAPO also call for visible traffic policing to enforce compliance on the roads.

Lastly, AZAPO takes this moment to wish all who will be celebrating this period a happy and safe Easter.

Thank you.
