The University of Limpopo (UL) joins the nation in mourning the passing of our esteemed alumnus, Kgalake Donald Nkadimeng – affectionately known as Bra Don. A fearless advocate for, and a champion of, justice and a dedicated liberation attorney, he spent his life fighting for the rights of the oppressed, representing many political activists with resolute commitment. Bra Don departed on the evening of 16 March 2025, leaving behind a powerful legacy of activism, leadership, and service to the people.
Known among his comrades as Mo’ Afrika, he completed his LLB (Baccalaureus Legum) at the then University of the North (now UL) in 1975. His deep connection with the University extended beyond his student yearsโhe was the first elected president of the Alumni and Convocation Association, inaugurated in 1982. His passion for justice and Black Consciousness found expression in his political work. As a founding member of AZAPO (Azanian People’s Organisation) in 1978, Bra Don played a crucial role in shaping the direction of the movement, later serving as its Secretary General. With the dawn of democracy in 1994, he became the first provincial Chairperson of AZAPO in the then Northern Transvaal (now Limpopo Province), cementing his lifelong dedication to the liberation struggle. Bra Don was not just a legal mind or a political figureโ he was a mentor, a voice of reason, and a pillar of strength in the community.
His enduring commitment to justice, education, and Black empowerment continues to inspire generations of students, alumni, and leaders. As we bid farewell to one of our own, we do not simply mourn. We honour. We remember. We celebrate a life well-lived in service of others. The University of Limpopo salutes you, Bra Don.
Robala ka Khutso, Mo’Afrika!
